Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Mesotherapy?
A: Mesotherapy is a specialized, non surgical treatment technique developed by French physician Dr. Pistor in 1952 that is becoming popular in the U.S. The technique involves injecting microscopic quantities of natural extracts, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and homeopathic remedies into the "mesoderm layer" or middle layer of the skin where the problems are. The mesoderm layer includes fat, muscle, and connective tissue. It can be used to eliminate cellulite, treat aging skin and sagging skin.
Q: What are the benefits of Mesotherapy over surgical techniques such as Liposuction?
A: Liposuction does not treat cellulite. In fact, liposuction often causes existing cellulite to appear more prominent. Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly, promoting smoother skin and reducing fat in selected areas. Fat deposits are flushed from the body and do not reappear in other areas, which often occurs after liposuction. Mesotherapy does not require hospitalization, general anesthesia or downtime.
Q: How does Mesotherapy reduce or eliminate cellulite?
A: Mesotherapy treats three factors involved in cellulite formation. Your clinician creates a specific formula to reduce the fat in your cellulite, improve impaired circulation and break down damaged connective tissue-thereby smoothing the skin's surface. Mesotherapy can treat cellulite located anywhere on the body.
Q: What are Mesotherapy's anti-aging and skin rejuvenation uses?
A: Subdermal vitamin injections rejuvenate the cells, making them more active, and thereby stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. You can begin anti-aging treatments in your mid twenties to prevent wrinkles from forming. Treatments for the face, neck, arms and hands are recommended several times each year.
Q: What can I expect during my first consultation?
A: Your first visit will be with Dr. Marc Margiotta and Dr. Toni Bark. After filling out a series of forms, the doctors will review your medical history and give you an in-depth explanation as to what Mesotherapy is. They will discuss any contraindications during your consultation and explain any restriction that you may have to follow. They will address any of your concerns and give you several treatment options during your consultation You will then proceed with treatment at your convenience.
Q: When will I see results?
A: Results vary depending on your body type and the condition being treated. On average, patients notice visible improvement in 1-2 sessions.
Q: Will the results last?
A: The results do last, especially when combined with exercise and proper nutrition. However, we cannot stop the natural aging that affects your appearance. For this reason, we recommend regular maintenance visits.
Q: Are the treatments painful?
A: You will feel a slight pinching or burning sensation when the injections are administered. However, you will be offered the choice to purchase a topical numbing cream which you can apply 1 hour before your appointment.
Q: Are there any side effects?
A: A common side effect of Mesotherapy is bruising, burning and itching. Itching usually resolves in 30-45 minutes. Bruising generally resolves over 1-2 weeks. To speed up the healing process, we recommend that the homeopathic supplement arnica be taken either orally or applied topically on a daily basis. Patients may experience temporary soreness. This will subside within 24-48 hours. Ice is also recommended after your treatment to reduce swelling and pain.
Q: Are there any contraindications/restrictions?
A: Restrictions vary, depending on the condition being treated. We discuss these with each patient before treatments commence.
